Recent published photography – Oberlin College alumni magazine

Press check at Bolger Printing in Minneapolis for the Winter 2013 Oberlin Alumni Magazine… I captured this early morning image during four days of photography in April. It was one of those images where serendipity happens… the light, the iconic campus building, and the young woman on a bike holding a sign under her arm that says, “I decree my personhood.” The image tells the story of the college and unique student body.

New work: Admissions and viewbook photography at Davidson College

Whew. I’m finally getting caught up on blogging some of the higher ed projects from the fall season. It’s been super busy, and I’ve been on the road since mid-September. Here’s some images from three days of photography at Davidson College in North Carolina. This was the first time I took a Frisbee to the head in the line of duty… I realized that my first concern is to always protect the camera.

And now for something completely different…

This project was rather familiar and completely different at the same time, a mash up of higher education and fashion photography. Imperial College of London needed advertising images of a new alumni clothing line. Charles, an alum, physicist, blogger, and first-time model was great. He was easy to direct on-camera, even when he had to wear a hoodie on an August morning in DC (the weather was actually sort of cool…perfect). Echo, his dog, might have been the best dog that I’ve ever worked with on a shoot. He resisted the urge to eat the scarf we dressed him in.

We shot in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of D.C., which with its townhouses, parks and red brick sidewalks looks a lot like some of London’s neighborhoods.

Here are a few images from the shoot…
